Legacy, FFXIV 1.0
Q: What's changed, and what is new about A Realm Reborn?
A: To find out about the changes and additions to Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, visit this page.
Q: What is Legacy?
A: Legacy is a title for players who paid for at least 90 days of service in the 1.0 client. This title provides a few perks, most notably a discount for subscription fees in 2.0 and access to the 2.0 beta phase 1.
More information can be found here.
Q: How do I convert my 1.0 character to ARR?
A: Check out the Original Character Transition FAQ.
Q: If I bought the original game, do I have to re-buy the new version?
A: No. All registered FFXIV users will be able to download the ARR client for free, and will be able to try ARR for free during a Welcome Back campaign after launch (details TBA). Product keys for 1.0 and buddy passes will also still work for ARR if they have not yet been activated.
Q: Do the old servers still exist?
A: All servers have new hardware and many new world servers have been opened. Existing original version worlds (post-merger) are marked as "Legacy" worlds. All users may create characters on both legacy and non-legacy worlds.
Q: I bought the 1.0 version. Do I have to buy the new one?
A: No. All 1.0 owners are able to download the new game client for free, and get to play free until September 16th. However, you will not have early access unless you are a Legacy player or you buy the new game.
Q: Is the storyline in ARR different from 1.0? What happened in 1.0?
A: ARR has an original storyline that details the events five years after the end of 1.0. /u/RosethornCinema has posted an extensive work detailing the 1.0 storyline on Hydaelyn Roleplayers Coalition
Servers, Hardware, Client, Platform
Q: Where are servers located?
A: Japanese servers are located in Japan. European and North American servers are located in Montreal, Canada. However, accounts are not region locked, so any player may play on any server.
Q: What's the best time to get into a filled server?
Generally, between 1am to 7am Pacific Time (GMT -8) is a good general time to join a filled server. There is no guaranteed time when a server will be open, but trending towards server "downtime" is the best ideal.
Q: What is the current status of the PlayStation versions?
A: PS3 version was released alongside the PC version on August 27, 2013.
PS4 version was released on April 14, 2014.
Q: Can I use one account for both PC and PS3?
A: Yes, however you'll have to buy both the PC version and the PS3 version.
Q: What kind of computer is recommended for the new version?
A: The best way to see if your machine will run FFXIV is by downloading the 2.0 Benchmark. The game has been re-optimized and will run on machines with very low specs including laptops. A "passing" score for barely minimum specs would be ~1000 on the Benchmark.
Q: I'm looking to build a PC for the game, what should I do?
A: Head on over to /r/buildapc and ask, that's what they are there for. Be sure to include specific details.
Q: Can I use a mouse/keyboard with my PS3/PS4, or a gamepad for my PC?
A: Yes and yes! Both systems have both options available (though you'll need a keyboard and mouse that's compatible with your PS3).
Q: Is there a version for Mac OS X?
A: An official client for Mac computers was released along with the Heavensward expansion on June 23, 2015. However, due to severe performance issues and user complaints, sales are temporarily suspended until the quality of the software is up to par with the other versions of the game. The Mac version is priced at $59.99, and includes both the base game and Heavensward in an all-in-one package that is download only. The Mac and Windows clients are considered separate licenses; if you want to play the game on both platforms with one account you must buy it once for each.
